In the past 8 years the number of people living in Long Term Care under the age of 65 has risen about 22%. According to CMS – about 15% of nursing home residents are under the age of 65

For younger seniors, the psychological and social needs are often more challenging than physical needs. Traditional activities are not interesting to a younger population. Plus they face isolation and loneliness when their roommates and neighbors are years or even decades older.

Find out what they like to do.
The first step: Find out what they like to do. There may be things they have enjoyed in the past but physical or cognitive changes make these things more difficult. Once you know what they like to or used to like to do, you have a jumping off point.

The Life Story Each community collects information in different ways and uses different forms. The format you use is not important – getting the information is what’s important.

Stonecrest has a 5-page Life Story that is completed by the family prior to move in. The engagement team will complete it with the residents if the family does not. This is the specific leisure assessment which is part of the Life Story.
