About Us – Gray’s Derbyshire Associates is a London based clean energy firm in association with Drive Electric NG - We started exploring the idea of electric vehicles and alternatives to petrol powered vehicles in Africa early Many doubted we would be able to cause a disruption to the market with the main obstacle being a stable and sufficient electricity supply in the continent. After one year of extensive research we are now in a position to pioneer bringing electric tuks or e-tuks to Africa’s largest economy - Nigeria.
We managed to find and team up with Tuk Tuk Factory, Netherlands, Europe’s largest e-tuk manufacturers, a manufacturer that completely fitted in with our ethos, professionalism and clean air vision for Africa and globally. Since then we have been working hard to develop an etuk vehicle fit for purpose for the African market. We discovered the ‘e-tuk Safari’.
Lives Matter! - Lagos and Abuja will be our first destinations for the e-tuks. Nigeria is home to some of the most polluted cities in the world and continues to use pollutant petrol powered vehicles for mass public transport. We found this a perfect destination for electric tuks, which will cut pollution to 0% emissions, create sustainable jobs, lower running costs for owners and reduce the cost of transport, reduce noise, increase safety and reduce reliance on petrol in the country – A no brainer!
Let’s keep things moving - One of the biggest challenges that we faced from the African market was the temperamental electricity supply. Fully aware, of this problem, GD devised a solution to power and charge its e-tuks in all major cities and rural areas. Allowing e-tuk owners the freedom to recharge their vehicle batteries conveniently as required wherever and whenever needed, just like any petrol powered vehicle would be able to do in a petrol station and keeping things moving!

10. Delivery of e-tuks by 1st quarter 2019 ?
We aim to be on the ground in Nigeria by end of (last quarter) Nigeria is our first step in delivering electric three wheelers to Africa, which will be used for passenger transport and cargo effectively, safely and helping to better the environment.
With the infrastructure in place to charge all e-tuks and EV’s conveniently and as required, which has never happened before in Africa, our aim is to expand this model firstly to other cities in Nigeria then to other African countries, providing the same solution which will be afforded in Nigeria.
Our current investment in infrastructure?
As first movers in the industry, we want to ensure we pave the way and accelerate the potential for electric vehicles in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. We are currently investing in e-tuks in Nigeria looking at infrastructure (assembly factories) and development of better and more efficient charging solutions for e-tuks on the ground which have less reliance on the national grid. Our business focus
As a business our main focus is to offer an alternative means of public transport in Nigeria and further afield in other countries in Africa. The benefits of this project i.e. brining fit for purpose electric vehicles to Nigeria will include; a reduction of air pollution i.e. reduced PM10 levels (which are currently at least 30x over the recommended WHO levels), offering less reliant on petrol (which is currently on the list as one of the Nigeria governments main agenda points) to create sustainable jobs for many people working under $5ppp per week, to reduces the cost of transport for the masses in the urban and rural areas and reduce the total cost of ownership for fleet and cargo owners.
