Hunters and gatherers moved around to find food. They were nomads. Nomads are people who had no single, settled home.

The Big Discovery! Farming!
Probably by accident, man realized by planting seeds, new plants would emerge from the ground. This sounds simple to us, but this discovery changed the lives of early man because now they knew the basic secret of … Farming!

No More Nomads! -Learned about their environment and settled down.
-Learned not to collect all the seeds at harvest time so they could replant some for the following season -Still hunted and gathered at first, but now they could make their own food! -Places that had long springs and summers and fertile soil made good homes.

By observing their behaviors, humans learned to domesticate some animals. Domesticate-making them more useful to humans.

Surplus allowed people to store food for a time when they would need it. Surplus allowed for people to start trading for goods they may want or need. Surplus allowed people to stay in one place and create larger families and populations. Surplus allowed some people to stop farming and develop new skills. SO…….Surplus basically led to diversification of jobs!

So Many Jobs…. Having different jobs led to growing towns and cities.
