P1 – Getting to know your group
Your teacher will take the register – make sure that you are in the right place! Ice breaker! What has Thomas Tallis already done to Fly the Flag? Play the clip in the slide by clicking on Fly the Flag

P1 – The aim of today Ai Weiwei was inspired to create his flag after his experiences with refugees You are going to create a flag that represents a human right that you think is important to Tallis We will be flying Ai Weiwei’s flag and all of your flags for the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights The creators of the best flags will have the opportunity to attend a trip to Somerset House in London for the national Launch of Fly the Flag

P1 Sharing learning Now each year group in the class takes turns to talk about what they have learnt about human rights over the last two weeks If you discussed it in PSHCE, you could also explain what you think is the most important human right and why Someone should take notes on the board to guide the next discussion Students can present any aspect of what they have learnt.
6
P1/2 – Making Decisions Now get into smaller work groups of about 3-5 students, with a mixture of year groups in each Your group will discuss what you think the most important human right is and explain why You will have to agree on one human right to focus on for the next task, although you may end up doing more than this if you have time You have a number of tasks to complete; Design the flag and make the flag A neat write-up of which human right was chosen and why, linking to Tallis Character and/or Habits Tallis Rights statement to be written Script created that explains your ideas You can organize the group work in whatever way you want. If they want to work as a whole group and everyone has a role then that’s fine. I have specified smaller groups to ensure that no one is just sitting around.

P4 – Ai Weiwei Film To watch the film click here
As the flags are finished students can watch ‘Human Flow’ Ai Weiwei shows the scale of the global migration crisis in this documentary, which portrays the plight of today’s 65 million forcibly displaced individuals; forced out of their homes by war, famine and climate change on long, treacherous journeys in search of new lives. Filmed over the span of a year, Human Flow was shot by 25 film crews in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, France, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Palestine, Serbia, Switzerland, Syria, Thailand, and Turkey. These are some of the real issues we are tackling by talking about and caring about human rights. If you are upset by any of the content or scenes please talk to your teacher. Please note: although the film is rated 12 it contains upsetting scenes including images of dead bodies. You probably won’t get that far in the film unless you are skipping parts. The first part where graves are seen is about 1hour and 15mins in. Students can be directed to the LSU if they are upset by anything they see in the film. Tutors and HoYs will know which students might have experiences that are reflected in the film or those that have had recent bereavement. You can also access the film through Netflix (search Human Flow) or in the Videos section of Office 365. Just go to Apps – Videos – Channels - Community To watch the film click here
