Figure 1 Rubicon Is a Multidomain Adaptor Protein that Assembles Different Protein Complexes under Basal and PRR-Activated Conditions in Macrophages These complexes govern diverse host immune output pathways that impact the ability to control different pathogen classes, namely bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Such outputs include positive regulation of NADPH oxidase (NOX2) assembly for superoxide (O2−) generation (denoted by blue arrows) and control of bacterial pathogens, as well as negative regulation of the CARD9/Bcl10-MALT-1 complex and downstream inflammatory cytokine production (denoted by blocked red lines). The latter outcome renders the host more susceptible to viral and fungal pathogens. Cell Host & Microbe , DOI: ( /j.chom ) Copyright © 2012 Elsevier Inc. Terms and Conditions
