Part 1: Purpose Statement
The purpose statement helps readers understand what you wanted to find out with your project. Explain why you chose this project, and how you think the results of your experiment will help improve something. A purpose statement is best if left short and sweet. Try to sum up your experiment in four sentences or less.

Part 1: Purpose Statement
Example: I chose to find out which mixture of chemicals would create the most volatile eruption from a model volcano. I chose this project because I love volcanoes and wanted to see if how explosive I could make my own.
6
Part 2: Hypothesis This is where you explain what you think will happen in your experiment AND WHY. It is really important you think about this and write it down BEFORE you do the experiment! You need to connect this to the experiment.
7
Part 2: Hypothesis For example, if you were trying to find out which bubble gum kept its flavour the longest, your hypothesis could be: I predict that Bubbly Sue’s Bubble Gum will keep its flavour longer than any other because it is the biggest piece of gum.
8
Or if your experiment is to discover which brand of cola will remove the shell from an egg the fastest: Research suggests that all types of cola are highly acidic. I think that Sam’s cola will remove the egg shell the fastest as it is not a well-known brand and so perhaps doe not have as much money to spend on perfecting its recipe to be less unhealthy.
