2 Timothy 2:20-23
4
Acts 20:7 Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.
5
1 Corinthians 16:1-2 [1] Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: [2] On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.

2 Timothy 2:20-23 NKJV[20] But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. [21] Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. [22] Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. [23] But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.

Meet For The Master's Use
In our text we see that as Christians we can fall away and lose our salvation (2 Tim. 2:14-19). 2 Timothy 2:14-19 NKJV[14] Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. [15] Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. [16] But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. [17] And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, [18] who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. [19] Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

Meet For The Master's Use
We can be suitable for the master’s use or we can be unsuitable (2 Tim. 2:20-21). 2 Timothy 2:20-21 NKJV[20] But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. [21] Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
10
Meet For The Master's Use
So we ought to examine ourselves and see if we are meet for the master’s use (2 Tim. 2:25-26). 2 Timothy 2:25-26 NKJV[25] in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, [26] and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
11
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Purge Myself. We have to purge ourselves from things contrary to God’s purposes (2 Tim. 2:20-21). To purge means to clean thoroughly. That means we have to cleanse our lives of sin (2 Tim. 2:19, 22, 23). 2 Timothy 2:19,22-23 NKJV[19] Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity." [22] Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. [23] But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.
12
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Purge Myself. By choosing to have no fellowship with unrighteousness (2 Cor. 6:14-18). By cleansing ourselves in thought, word, and deed (2 Cor. 7:1). 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 NKJV[14] Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? [15] And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? [16] And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people." [17] Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you." [18] "I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty." 2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
13
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Purge Myself. By not forgetting that God purged our sins when we obeyed the gospel (2 Pet. 1:9). By recalling that those who engage in sin will not inherit the kingdom (Gal. 5:19-21). Galatians 5:21 NKJV[21] envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 2 Peter 1:9 NKJV[9] For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
14
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Purge Myself. 1 John 5:18 NKJV[18] We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.
15
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Flee Youthful Lusts! Timothy was a young man (1 Tim. 4:12). There are some desires that are stronger when we are young but are dangerous to all (i.e. pleasure, ambition, materialism, etc.). How can we withstand them? 1 Timothy 4:12 NKJV[12] Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
16
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Flee Youthful Lusts! By admitting that they can be resisted (Jas. 1:12-15). By abstaining from them, knowing they wage war against us (1 Pet. 2:11). 1 Peter 2:11 NKJV[11] Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, James 1:12-15 NKJV[12] Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. [13] Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
17
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Flee Youthful Lusts! By denying ungodliness and worldly lusts (Tit. 2:11-12). By recalling that we will answer for what we do, young or not (Ecc. 11:9-10). Ecclesiastes 11:9-10 NKJV[9] Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, And in the sight of your eyes; But know that for all these God will bring you into judgment. [10] Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, And put away evil from your flesh, For childhood and youth are vanity. Titus 2:11-12 NKJV[11] For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, [12] teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
18
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Flee Youthful Lusts! Psalm 119:9 NKJV[9] How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
19
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue Righteousness. By first recognizing that it is God who decides what is right (Psa. 119:172). We dare not try to establish our own (Rom. 10:1-3). Romans 10:1-3 NKJV[1] Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. [2] For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. [3] For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. Psalm 119:172 NKJV[172] My tongue shall speak of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness.
20
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue Righteousness. It is the gospel of Jesus Christ that reveals God’s will for us (Rom. 1:16-17). By believing and obeying the gospel we become acceptable to God (Act 10:34-35). Romans 1:16-17 NKJV[16] For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. [17] For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith." Acts 10:34-35 NKJV[34] Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. [35] But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.
21
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue Righteousness. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 NKJV[15] See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.
22
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue Faith. We have to be faithful to God if we want to be useful (Heb. 11:6). By obeying the gospel we commit ourselves to Him (1 Cor. 6:19-20; Mt. 16:24). To become a “soldier” to do what pleases Him, not ourselves (2 Tim. 2:3-4; Mt. 7:21). 2 Timothy 2:3-4 NKJV[3] You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. [4] No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.
23
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue Faith. We must stand with Him no matter what comes (2 Tim. 4:16-17). We must be faithful though some fall away (1 Tim. 4:1,2). Even if it means our very lives we must strive to remain faithful to Him (Rev. 2:10). 2 Timothy 4:16-17 NKJV[16] At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them. [17] But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
24
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue Faith. Luke 18:8 NKJV[8] Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"
25
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue LOVE. This is agape, which is a love that manifests itself in always doing right by its object. It is exemplified in God’s giving His Son to save mankind (Jn. 3:16). It must motivate us in all our service to God and man (1 Jn. 4:7; Gal. 5:6; 1 Pet. 4:8). 1 Peter 4:8 NKJV[8] And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins." Galatians 5:6 NKJV[6] For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. 1 John 4:7 NKJV[7] Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
26
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue LOVE. It is a sign we are walking by the Spirit (Gal. 5:22). Never forget that without it all our sacrifice and service is worthless (1 Cor. 13:1-3). 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NKJV[1] Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. [2] And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. [3] And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
27
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue LOVE. Matthew 22:37-39 NKJV[37] Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' [38] This is the first and great commandment. [39] And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
28
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue Peace. First with God through the gospel of Jesus Christ (Rom. 5:1). Then with all men, and especially our brethren (Rom. 12:17-18; 2 Tim. 2:22). Romans 12:17-18 NKJV[17] Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. [18] If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Romans 5:1 NKJV[1] Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 Timothy 2:22 NKJV[22] Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
29
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue Peace. By seeking to shun and avoid sin and follow after God, peace will result. Thus we must stand against all that threatens the peace God provides (Tit. 3:10). Titus 3:10 NKJV[10] Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition,
30
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
Pursue Peace. Hebrews 12:14 NKJV[14] Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
31
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
A Pure Heart. Timothy was to shun sin and follow after righteousness, faith, love, and peace along with all his brethren who were vessels for Honor for the master’s use; who were calling on the Lord out of a pure heart. If we would be useful, we must come to God with a pure and sincere heart (Mt. 5:8). Matthew 5:8 NKJV[8] Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
32
What Must I Do To Be A vessel for Honor?
A Pure Heart. Philippians 1:10 NKJV[10] that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,
