Population What things can change the dynamics of populations in different places?

Population Vocabulary:
Population: all the inhabitants of a particular town, area, or country. Population distribution: the geographic pattern of where people live on Earth; it is uneven as well. Population density- the average number of people living within a square mile Urban areas are densely populated. Rural areas are sparsely populated.

What causes changes in Population?
Migration: movement to another place Voluntary- Pull factors Involuntary – Push factors Birth Rate: the ratio between births and individuals in a specified population and time. (i.e births per woman in the U.S.) Death Rate: the ratio of deaths to the population of a particular area or during a particular period of time, usually calculated as the number of deaths per one thousand people per year. External Factors: disease, natural disasters, war, etc.

What are some potential problems with Population?
Overpopulation: worsens numerous environmental and social factors such as pollution, malnutrition, overcrowded living conditions. Overpopulation also contributes to diseases spreading at a faster rate. Underpopulation: the population has declined too much to support its current economic system
