POSITIVE COACHING SCOTLAND PRACTICE THROUGH PRACTICE
Coaches often use drills to improve the young athletes skills and technique. The same applies when teaching respect as part of a coaching philosophy. During sessions, real opportunities will regularly present themselves where you can reinforce the message. These can be both positive and negative situations of sportsmanlike or unsportsmanlike behaviour. If an athlete or team react well to the situation, praise them for their behaviour. If not, use the opportunity to discuss respect. A situation that may arise during competition, such as a poor refereeing decision may result in a young athlete getting upset and shouting at referee. Let a young athlete officiate a training match to experience how difficult the job can be and teach them they can disagree with an official but do it in a respectful way. Rate this tool! Give us your feedback.
