“Adversaries”
means 2 opposing sides or opponents

3. Criminal Law / Court The two Adversaries/opponents are:
“The Crown”, crown prosecutor or the “queen” who would be prosecuting the case or placing the charge
Versus the accused, the “Defendant”

4. Private Law or Civil law
“The Plaintiff (suing)
” versus “
The defendant”

5. QUESTION: Why 2 opposing sides?

6. HOW the adversarial system works!!
Each side argues it’s own case.
Decides what to present (witnesses, evidence, cross-examining, etc.)
MUST be prepared! Decision is based on what is presented only!
Judge decides what “Rules of Law” apply
USUALLY Judge/jury does not ask questions.
