Daniel 8, 10, & 11 The Ram & Goat The Terrifying Vision
Kings and Cycle of Rulers

Daniel 9 Review “Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5 we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. 9 The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him; 10 we have not obeyed the Lord our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets. 11 All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you.

Chapter 8
4
In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after that which appeared to me at the first. 3 I raised my eyes and saw, and behold, a ram standing on the bank of the canal. It had two horns, and both horns were high, but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last. 5 As I was considering, behold, a male goat came from the west across the face of the whole earth, without touching the ground. And the goat had a conspicuous horn between his eyes. Then the goat became exceedingly great, but when he was strong, the great horn was broken, and instead of it there came up four conspicuous horns toward the four winds of heaven. Daniel 8:1,3,5

9 Out of one of them came a little horn, which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the glorious land. 11 It became great, even as great as the Prince of the host. And the regular burnt offering was taken away from him, and the place of his sanctuary was overthrown. 12 And a host will be given over to it together with the regular burnt offering because of transgression, and it will throw truth to the ground, and it will act and prosper…23 And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise. 24 His power shall be great—but not by his own power; and he shall cause fearful destruction and shall succeed in what he does, and destroy mighty men and the people who are the saints. 25 By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great. Without warning he shall destroy many. And he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes, and he shall be broken—but by no human hand. Daniel 8:9,11-12,23-25

In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar. And the word was true, and it was a great conflict. And he understood the word and had understanding of the vision. 2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. 3 I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks. 5 I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. Daniel 10:1-3,5-6

12 Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. 13 The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, 14 and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come.” Daniel 10:12-14

18 Again one having the appearance of a man touched me and strengthened me. 19 And he said, “O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.” And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” 20 Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come. 21 But I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince. Daniel 10:18-21

What can we take from Chapter 10?
About God? About The History of the World?

And now I will show you the truth
And now I will show you the truth. Behold, three more kings shall arise in Persia, and a fourth shall be far richer than all of them. And when he has become strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the kingdom of Greece. 3 Then a mighty king shall arise, who shall rule with great dominion and do as he wills. 4 And as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken and divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his posterity, nor according to the authority with which he ruled, for his kingdom shall be plucked up and go to others besides these […King of the South…King of the North…Daughter of King of South…A root of the daughter…king of the north again…fighting all around God’s place (Jerusalem and the Temple)] 14 “In those times many shall rise against the king of the south, and the violent among your own people shall lift themselves up in order to fulfill the vision, but they shall fail. 15 Then the king of the north shall come and throw up siegeworks and take a well-fortified city. And the forces of the south shall not stand, or even his best troops, for there shall be no strength to stand. 16 But he who comes against him shall do as he wills, and none shall stand before him. And he shall stand in the glorious land, with destruction in his hand. Daniel 11:1-~-16
12
31 Forces from him shall appear and profane the temple and fortress, and shall take away the regular burnt offering. And they shall set up the abomination that makes desolate. 32 He shall seduce with flattery those who violate the covenant, but the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action…. 34 When they stumble, they shall receive a little help. And many shall join themselves to them with flattery, 35 and some of the wise shall stumble, so that they may be refined, purified, and made white, until the time of the end, for it still awaits the appointed time. Daniel 11:31-32…34-35

Those who acknowledge him he shall load with honor…Yet he shall come to his end, with none to help him. Daniel 11:31-32…34-35

It’s ok. Daniel didn’t understand it all either:
8:15 - He didn’t understand and asked for understanding 8:27 - He was overcome and lay sick for days. Chapter 9 – Thorough Repentance 10:1-3 – Mourning and Praying 10:20 – Then he said “Do you not know why I have come to you? 12:8 – He heard all the vision, but did not understand

PRE-Application: 6 Major Truths of Chapters 7-12
Those who stand against God exist, often in the form of a State or Nation, and are represented by violent and grotesque beasts. Not as a human that bears God’s image. God Announces a set time of deliverance from Evil Empires Repentance leads to deliverance

PRE-Application: 6 Major Truths of Chapters 7-12
A Spiritual Battle beyond our comprehension is going on for the affairs of humans and for the glory and vindication of God and His people. There is certain judgment against for those who do wrong to God’s people. God’s currently downtrodden people will experience deliverance and new life
17
application Anyone want to take a stab at it?
We have brothers and sisters currently across this world who experience this kind of cruel oppression, resistance, and violence daily. Are we aware of this? What do we do? We (collective Church) are currently in a similar scenario, awaiting the Return of Christ to destroy all empires of evil forever. This scenario in Daniel 8-11 seems to ring true in our age as well. It reminds us of prophesies in John’s Revelation. If this is the case, we should we expect of our own lives?
18
application Please take a card. It is either a country in which Christians are brutally oppressed, or a martyr of our faith. Over the next week take a moment to learn a little about it. Pray for these oppressed people. Consider what we can learn from them. What should I expect as a person who follows Jesus? Here are verses of scripture I have written down for myself this week: Romans 12:1-2 Philippians 1:21 Matthew 5:11-12 Matthew 16:24-26 Matthew 10:38 Luke 14:27 Luke 9:23-24
