2. What is a diary?
What type of writing do we find? ( analysis, instruction, recount… persuasion, information, argument…).
What person will typically be used?
Who is the intended audience of a diary? How might this affect the content?

3. TASK
Write a diary entry where Lyra explores Act 1:4 ll of His Dark Materials (1).
Write about words for this task in your blue books.
You should quote when you feel it is appropriate.

4. APPROACH What are the key events of the scene?
What are the key topics under discussion?
How does Lyra feel about these events (and how do you know?)?

5. Consider Does Lyra understand all that is said with clarity?
Will she be persuaded by Asriel – if so what might impress her about the way he handles the meeting?
Will she write to PAN?
Will she refer to PAN?
What person will she utilise for her writing?
What emotions will she have in relation to the events she witnesses?
