On May 2nd, Canadian government promised to bring the garbage from Philippine ports back to Vancouver port. Canada has field a formal application with the Philippines for this in the beginning of May. The garbage has been stored in the Philippine ports for six years. In the past week, there were Sixty-nine shipping containers of fetid trash are on their way back to Canada, after being loaded onto a container ship in the Philippines port of Subic. The last container was put aboard the MV Bavaria shortly after 3 a.m. Friday in the Philippines. The Canadian officials confirmed that the cost of hired the ships to bring the garbage back is $1.4million. However, Canada has previously said it expected the garbage to be back on Canadian soil by the end of June. So what is the reason that makes Canada to bring the garbage back a month earlier? The reason why Canada brought the garbage back a month earlier is because the president of Philippine, Rodrigo Duterte made an example of Canada trying to dump its trash on his country. He said that if Canada is not shipping its garbage back, then he is ready to declare a war. The Canadian containers arrived in the Philippines in 2013 and falsely labelled as being full of recycling plastics. There were 103 containers and about 2,500 tones of waste originally, but 34 containers have been disposed of locally in the Philippines, despite the objections of local environment groups. Last Friday all the garbage have been brought back. The six-year battle to get the garbage returned is finally over.

Why is it important? It’s important because the relationship between Canada and the Philippines might get affect/badly from this. Also, where is Canada going to place the garbage, or what will they do with this garbage. We all know that these garbage are now in Vancouver which is close to us. If Canada cannot handle this, our environment might be polluted because of this.
