3 What is Main Idea? Main Idea-is the overall topic of a text.
Usually found in the first sentence, last sentences, or introduction. Can be directly stated or can be an abstract idea Supporting Details Is a detail that supports or explains the main idea Uses transition words to let us know it’s the supporting detail

9 Essential Question How do I write a research based-persuasive piece?
Why is it important to have the facts before we make a claim. How do I summarize informational texts to identify for main idea and supporting details? What skills will I use during my research and writing? Critical Thinking, inferring, drawing conclusions, reading graphs, identifying meaning of unknown words, as well as planning out and writing.

10 What am I going to do? Over the course of the next few days, you will be showing off your powers of researchers, critical thinkers, and writers. You are going to watch a short video and read a couple of articles. Each text will give you more information about the issue of whether zoos are helpful or harmful for endangered species. Your reading will set up your position on the issue: Are zoos helpful or hurtful to endangered species?
