The four challenges and the great opportunities.
The challenges are climate, distance to markets, low population and limitations in logistics. The great opportunities is within oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, seabed mining, wind power, mining, tourism and the list goes on and on. The real challenge is the sharing of space and the influence on existing activities based on harvesting of natural resources in the sea og on land.

The management of Northern Fish stocks is a proven success.
Responsible management Significant enforcement Common understanding of both challenges and opportunities. However the true potential of the fishing resources in the north, is far from utilized so far.

Why co-operate? Norway and Russia have co-operated for centuries also when it comes to fisheries In fact, Norwegians and Russians have been trading and harvesting from the same resources for the last 500 years. And this is documented On state level, the official co-operation started in the 1970ies Can this experience be a lesson of learning for all the arctic business opportunities?

Common effort to realize the arctic potential?
The arctic climate requires international agreements to protect and preserve the unique arctic nature. The challenge of logistics must be met by solutions beyond borders. The great opportunities can only be realized if the existing and renewable activities are respected.
