Performing speeches Date:
Objectives Practise our oratory or public speaking skills. Emphasise the music-like quality that speeches should have. Warm-up before we start: Explain the word Adrenaline. As in ‘I’m full of adrenaline’ What? Where? When? How?
2
Short notes before we start.
The body releases adrenaline in stressful situations. This will make your heart beat fast, make you sweat and make you breath heavy. Prevent this by relaxing your body, breathing steadily and realising there is no danger. (You have spoken to one person, to a group and this is no different.)
3
Checklist Each of you have a page with a checklist. Would you place a mark beside the word if it appears in a students speech and, if able, note what he said when you marked it. Keep this sheet then as a checklist for yourself to use.
4
Homework: Mark your own speech using the sheet. Consider ways you could improve it in preparation for the next topic.
