Present technologies to achieve high average power: DC, RF, SRF
Practical experience in each technology Scalability beyond 10 mA DC Drive laser technology Available average power at required wavelengths Pulse structure Cathode technology Metallic vs. NEA semiconductors New concepts and ideas QE and lifetime Can the cathode sustained the gradient? Practical experience
3
High charge AND high average current
Do we have the RF power? Again…cathode lifetime and QE High brightness, preserving the transverse emittance, but can one preserve the longitudinal emittance? Small transverse emittance achieved with high gradient at cathode Longitudinal space charge forces during creation and acceleration of the bunch
4
Minimizing halo (transverse and longitudinal)
This will be a big issue for 100 mA and beyond Higher power drive laser, more scattered light landing on the cathode Eliminating longitudinal halo induced by cathode response time No problem with metallic cathodes, but low QE A problem with NEA semiconductor cathodes, but high QE
5
Come join us, there will be plenty of material for discussion
