1 District Commissioners, are you looking for a fun and easy way for your units to help their community? Why not get involved in the One Can Trust Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar project?

2 What’s the problem? The One Can Trust is a foodbank serving High Wycombe and South Buckinghamshire. The foodbank provides more than 400 food parcels each month to people in need. Lots of families need food parcels during the summer holidays because their children don’t get free school meals when the schools are closed. Last summer, the One Can Trust got very low on food… The Second Marlow Bottom Brownies thought about fun and easy ways to help the One Can Trust get enough food to help local children during the summer holidays. They came up with the idea of the One Can Trust Summer Holiday Countdown calendar…

3 What is a One Can Trust Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar?
STEP 1: Get a box. Any box will do. Stick the One Can Trust Summer Holiday Countdown Poster on the side. STEP2: Every day from the 1st day of July to the last day of term, put a tin or a £1 coin in the box and tick off the day on the poster. Here’s the One Can Trust’s full shopping list but please see for what’s urgently needed: tinned spaghetti, tinned potatoes, instant mashed potato, tinned vegetables, tinned fish, tinned meats (including ham, meat pies, hot dogs, meatballs, chilli), coffee, tea, hot chocolate, squash, UHT / long life milk, sugar, breakfast cereals, jam, honey, chocolate spread, peanut butter, tinned fruit, rice pudding, jelly, Angel delight, biscuits, chocolate, chickpeas, kidney beans, butter beans, shampoo, conditioner, soap, sanitary products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, washing up liquid, toilet roll.

4 How can my units get involved with the One Can Trust Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar?
The calendar is really flexible and you can adapt the idea to suit the circumstances of your girls and your units. The important thing is that we get lots of food for the One Can Trust, rather than every unit having to do the same thing. Here are some ideas: VERY LOW EFFORT Leaders simply their parents the countdown_calendar_parents.pdf and encourage their girls to do the Countdown Calendar at home with their families and take it to the foodbank themselves. The One Can Trust warehouse at 11B Duke Street, High Wycombe, HP13 6EE will be open from 9.30 to 4.30 on Thursday 24th July to receive Summer Holiday Countdown Calendars, and also on Saturday 20th July 10 until 12. to arrange drop off outside these times. A BIT MORE EFFORT Your girls could do the Calendar in their Sixes or Patrols or as a whole unit. The Second Marlow Bottom Brownies would love to hear about other units taking part in the Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar. Please let Rebecca know This will help us to plan collections with the One Can Trust and organise reward stickers for your girls. Your girls could ask their head teacher if their school would like to be involved. Perhaps the head teacher would allow your girls to tell other children about the Countdown Calendar in assembly? This is happening at Burford School in Marlow Bottom.

5 We’d like to get involved in the Countdown Calendar as a District
We’d like to get involved in the Countdown Calendar as a District. What do we need to do? Organise a local drop off point for the Calendars from which you can drive them to the foodbank (11B Duke Street, High Wycombe, HP13 6EE) which will be open from 9.30 to 4.30 pm on the last day of term (Thursday 24th July). In Marlow Bottom, we are collecting Calendars at our local school and at a leader’s house from where we will drive the Calendars to the One Can Trust warehouse Make a special version of the Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar on slide 9 for your District. You need to change the logo to the relevant logo for your District. Make sure you also change the drop off point details. Make a new version of countdown_calendar_parents.pdf which has your District logo and drop off point details on and send it out to your parents. Finally, organise some people to drive the Calendars to the foodbank on 24th July. Is it tricky for you to drop off the Calendars during the working week? The One Can Trust will also be receiving Calendars on the morning of Saturday 20th July 10 to 12. If this drop off suits you better, you may prefer to do the shorter 20 day calendar (slide 11). If neither the 20th July nor 24th July suits you, please arrange a convenient time. Perhaps you could get a local business to sponsor the printing and advertising of the Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar for your District. Please Rebecca or phone if you have any questions or if you need help driving the calendars to the food bank. Thanks so much for your interest in the One Can Trust Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar.
