Children grow and develop as they mature – this much we know already.
There are 5 different areas in which children develop Physically Emotionally Socially Intellectually (Cognitive) Morally

Physical Development Growth of the body
Physical changes that take place in the brain (and central nervous system) Ability to learn control over his or her body. Gross Motor Skill development Fine Motor Skill development S4LI

Emotional Development
development and growth of feelings (about oneself, family, friends, other individuals and the world at large) Children need to develop a full range of feelings (examples?), and learn to handle them appropriately Emotional resilience helps people face the challenges of life d1Hw

Social Development Learning how to act as a person living with other people. This includes understanding your role in the family, community, and the world. Following accepted rules and acting according to what others expect - from manners to conscience- and learning how to belong in society, is social development.

Intellectual (Cognitive) Development
Intellectual development is the ability of a person to think and reason. Bv7UUw4

Moral Development the growth of morals and belief
Much of moral development is based on family values and the mimicking of parents. Parents teach children morality by behaving morally and telling stories that show morality.

Write a paragraph… In your own words, explain the meaning of the phrase, “Play is the work of children.”(Maria Montessori) Think about what we’ve learned so far about play, childhood, and development.
