Make special versions of your cover letter and resume for each job you apply to A well laid out resume and cover letter that is specific to the job will get in past the ATS and be more impressive once in the hands of a recruiter. Not This One resume doesn’t fit all jobs ATS’s will stop you at the door if your resume doesn’t match well with the job posting

4 Do This Be active with your LinkedIn account on a daily basis. Add new people into your network each day You can do this by adding people you have found each day through your networking activities, the jobs you have applied to that day, as well as people you have read about that day Not This Don’t simply have a LinkedIn Account to simply have a LinkedIn Account. Don’t think LinkedIn is a Job Board Don’t just “wing” your profile—spend time on it and make your self look as strong of a candidate as you can— companies WILL look at your social media accounts!

8 Do This Keep applying, even when you have a few resumes out on jobs you like. If you come across multiple job opening in the same industry – odds are that industry is HOT and you should take advantage of that Not This Don’t put your eggs all in one basket! Don’t stop the good momentum you build when you find good jobs to apply to – keep digging and apply to more!

9 Do This Not This Keep a tight Schedule
Add new items and follow up activities to your calendar each day. This way, you can always have a well balanced day with time on the phone, time on the computer, and time to enjoy yourself and get exercise. Not This Don’t wake up not knowing what you are doing that day Don’t get caught sitting at the computer all day

10 Do This Not This Keep a top 10 list of companies you want to work at
These companies can be on your list because they are close by, they are in your industry, they are a company with good reputation—really, any reason. Not This Not knowing your direction or what types of jobs or companies you want to work for makes it very hard to conduct a job search Don’t randomly look for jobs- make a solid well thought out plan
