Resurrection: The Power and the Glory
Ephesians 1
2
Two “power” encounters
5
God’s Power Eph 1:19-20 – That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead Rom 1:4b – appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord
6
God’s Purpose Eph 1:10 – to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ Eph 1:20-21 – he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come
7
Jesus’ Power Rev 1:17-18 – “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. He who conquers death can conquer anything!

For the past – Forgiveness
Eph 1:4-5 – For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ Eph 1:7-8 – In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us
9
For the present – Purpose
Eph 1:9 – He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ Eph 1:11 – In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will
10
For the future – Hope Eph 1:12 – in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory Eph 1:13-14 – When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory
11
Strength for today, hope for tomorrow
Eph 1:17-19 – May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. May the eyes of your heart be enlightened so that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe
