2 This presentation is designed to help students and parents understand the seating arrangements (there are three) at graduation. The 1st seating arrangement is in the stands prior to the ceremony. The 2nd one is on the field BEFORE diplomas are received. The 3rd is on the field AFTER diplomas are received. The pages in this PowerPoint show where each student will be seated in each phase as well as how and when they will move from one configuration to the next. Each student will be assigned a number based upon alphabetical order by last name. Numbers will be assigned at practice at 9:30 Tuesday morning, May 14. 3 STUDENTS WILL TAKE THEIR DESIGNATED SEATS IN THE VISITOR’S BLEACHERS
BEFORE THE CEREMONY BEGINS. STUDENTS ARE TO ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 6:00 P.M. IN CAPS & GOWNS. LEAVE ALL PERSONAL ITEMS IN CARS OR WITH PARENTS. (SENIORS PARK AT TROJAN HALL AND WALK TO TROJAN FIELD.)

4 THIS IS A VIEW OF THE SEATING ARRANGEMENT IN THE STANDS BEFORE THE CEREMONY BEGINS. SENIORS WILL BE SEATED IN A-B-C ORDER BY LAST NAME FROM 1 TO WHEN THE CEREMONY BEGINS, SENIORS WILL PROCEED DOWN THE CENTER AISLE OF THE BLEACHERS, THROUGH THE GATE AND ONTO THE FIELD IN PAIRS BEGINNING WITH ROWS 1 & 2. STUDENTS 15 & 30 WILL BE THE 1ST PAIR; 14 & 29, THE 2ND PAIR; 13 & 28, THE 3RD & SO ON. ROWS 3 & 4, LED BY 45 & 60 WILL FOLLOW, THEN ROWS 5 & 6, LED BY 75 & 90, AND SO ON UNTIL ALL OF THE ROWS HAVE EMPTIED.

UPON A-B-C ORDER AND ASSIGNED NUMBERS.

15 & 30 LEAD ROWS 1 & 2 INTO THEIR SEATS ON THE FIELD. 45 & 60 LEAD ROWS 2 & 4 INTO PLACE & SO ON. IT IS CRUCIAL THAT THE FIRST AND LAST STUDENTS IN EACH ROW REMAIN IN THAT DESIGNATED POSITION AS ROWS FILL. IF A CLASSMATE IS MISSING FROM THE LINEUP, DO NOT SIT IN THEIR CHAIR. PROCEED TO YOUR PREDETERMINED SPOT. STAY IN CORRECT A-B-C/NUMBER/ROW ORDER. THE PERSON WHO FILLS THE LAST SEAT IN EACH ROW NOW BECOMES THAT ROW’S LEADER WHEN IT IS TIME TO GET IN LINE FOR DIPLOMAS. SO IN ROW 1 STUDENT 15 IS NO LONGER THE LEADER, STUDENT 1 IS.

9 LAST PERSON IN ROW 1 IS # 1 Student # 15 is the leader of ROW 1 in the stands, but student # 1 is the leader in ROW 1 on the field and will be the 1st person in line for a diploma.

10 The leader in ROW 2 in the stands is # 30. The last person
is # 16 and will become the leader in ROW 2 on the field. # 16 On the field, # 16 will lead ROW 2 & will fall in behind # 15 in ROW 1 to line up for diplomas.

WALK THROUGH When it is time to receive diplomas, students will move in a counterclockwise pattern from their seats, exiting rows at the east end. WALK THROUGH Rows 1&2 will rise together. Row 1 exits first, turning left (north), then left again behind the odd numbered seating section and then left again up the other side, stopping at the edge. Row 2 begins exiting their seats when Row 1 is about half empty, falling in behind the last person in Row 1. WALK THROUGH As the name of the each Senior is announced, he/she will walk to the designated spot where Dr. Foster will be waiting for a handshake, delivery of diploma and a photograph. When Dr. Foster releases the handshake, the graduate will exit the area continuing in the counterclockwise direction and will move their tassel from the right side of their mortarboard to the left, signifying that they are now graduated. WALK THROUGH The first person in each row (the row leader) moves all the way to the end of the row and takes a seat followed by the remaining occupants of that row. Students are now seated in exact reverse order from their original positions in the row. All students in the row will remain standing until the last person is in position and then they will all sit together. When Row 1 is almost full, Row 3 rises and begins to empty. WALK THROUGH This pattern continues as students move in and out of their seats to get in line, receive their diplomas and return to their seats. The goal is to continue a steady, well paced flow. Students returning to their seats should wait behind the even numbered section of chairs while rows empty, if it is necessary, to avoid interfering with this process, before continuing back to their seats. WALK THROUGH This continues until all students have received their diplomas and have returned to their seats. Invited guests are asked to remain quietly seated until ALL Seniors have received their diplomas so that all guests can see and hear without audible disruptions or visual obstructions. WALK THROUGH Once all of the seniors have received their diplomas and have returned to their seat, all rise for the singing of the Alma Mater. Boys will remove their mortarboards at this time. At the conclusion of the Alma Mater, Dr. Foster will present the of Class of 2019 to the audience, signaling the GRADUATES to toss their mortarboards into the air in celebration.
