Figurative language or a figure of speech is a word or phrase that does not have a normal everyday literal meaning. So far you’ve learned about… Similes: comparing 2 unlike things using “like” or “as” Ex: “My cat is as cute as a button!” Metaphors: comparing 2 things without using “like” or “as” by saying something is something Ex: “The clouds are balls of cotton” Idioms: phrase or expression that doesn’t actually mean what the words say. Ex: “We’re having a ball!”
