Dialogues A New Beijing, Great Olympics (On July 13, 2001,Wang Dong met Li Hong at the school gate.) Wang: Good news! The Olympic Games will be held in Beijing in 2008. Li: We won at last! Wang: Do you know the Olympic motto? Li: Yes, it’s “faster, higher, stronger”. Wang: It means that every athlete should try to run faster, jump higher and throw further. Li: They do their best to win medals. Wang: The track and field are the heart of Olympics. Some events take place on a track, but some on city roads.

have to run 42 km without stopping. Li: They need not only speed but also endurance.

Look, the Korea team is in red and the Japanese team is in white. David: Do you mean the R.O. Korea team? Both teams are playing very well. (They watched the match and cheered for both sides.) Li: What’s the time now, David? David: There are two minutes to go by my watch. The score is still zero to zero. Li: Look, number 9 has got the ball. He is just coming by. B

Li: Come on! Shoot! David: It’s a goal! Li: What a goal! Have you ever seen a better goal than that one? David: Great! He is the best player on the field.
