3 Discussion 1 What traits are important to have on a team
Comes up with fresh, original concepts and ideas. They recognize alternative paths and understand the big picture. Lays the groundwork for implementation ensuring that the process moves forward in an orderly manner to achieve quality results. Recognizes ideas and new directions in the early stages and develops ways to promote them. They use past experiences and proven methods to share new ideas. Is a combination of all other roles. Monitors progress and can step in to fill any gaps during the various stages of a process. Ask students what traits are important to have on a team. Questions concepts and may play the devil’s advocate. They analyze ideas in an orderly manner and will detect flaws, potential problems, and will identify alternative solutions.

5 Assigning Roles How do you assign team members to roles?
Assign team members to roles that will promote their strengths. Why is this important? Team members can work to their strengths, which makes them feel like a valuable part of the team. Helps team members focus on their responsibilities. Ask students for their responses before revealing answers.

6 Activity 2 Match the team member to the best role: Chameleon
Terry is good at filling in wherever he is needed. Rachel is great at getting tasks accomplished. Chameleon Implementer Henry comes up with the best ideas. Tasha asks the questions no one else thinks to ask. Ask students for their responses before revealing answers. Generator Challenger Anika is popular around the office and everyone likes her, but she doesn’t know much about this area of the company. Matt is the best at getting everyone behind an idea. Promoter Should not be on the team

7 Leadership Decisions How do leadership decisions affect the team?
Good decisions Bad decisions Makes the team shine Boosts the esteem of team members Makes members feel they have made an important contribution to the work Boosts morale Cause the team not to reach their goals Lowers esteem of members Lowers morale Ask learners to share how they think leadership decisions (good and bad) impact a team.

Meeting with team members consistently to make sure tasks are on track. Completing the work of others when they can do it themselves. Allowing challenges to be resolved on their own. Addressing the needs of team members. Helping team members resolve conflict.
