1 2019 State Team Overview

2 WPQ State Team Coaching Structure
Final State Team selection is the responsibility of the WPQ selection panel, this consists of: JTP Coach Head Coach for each age group QAS Head Coach (Female/Male) Club Services Coordinator Each WPQ State team is allocated two coaches: Head coach: Ultimately responsible for the selection, preparation and performance of the team. This role acts as a mentor to the Development Coach. It is also the key contact for players, parents, club coaches and other stakeholders. Development coach: Supports the Head Coach in the preparation and performance of the squad and final team. This role will be be asked for input to final state team selection, however, is not a member of the WPQ selection panel. This role will oversee the WPQ second team in the age group. 3 SQUAD & TEAM SELECTION  What will the panel consider in selecting the final teams:  Performance in BWPI Competition & Finals, State Titles, National Club Championships, Feedback from coaches  Physical Capabilities  Technical Competence  Tactical Nous  Competitive Ability  Attitude and application to training  Attendance  Team/Squad Orientation  Communication Skills

4 Introduction The following slides outline the phases in more detail.
The WPQ State Team program consists of 6 Phases across a 20 week time period Phase 1: Up until 31st March 2019, Selection Panel observation period Phase 2: Week beginning 1st April, State Squads are announced Phase 3: 29th April – 26th May, State Squad training period Phase 4: Week of 27th May, State Teams (A & B) are announced Phase 5: 3rd June – 7th July, State Team preparation Phase 6: 6th – 12th July , State Teams to compete at State based Tournament The following slides outline the phases in more detail.

5 Phase 1: Selection Panel observation period
Week Description 1 25th February – 3rd March; Brisbane Water Polo observation and consultation with Club and State Development coaches 2 4th March – 10th March; Brisbane Water Polo observation and consultation with Club and State Development coaches 3 11th March – 17th March; Brisbane Water Polo observation and consultation with Club and State Development coaches 4 18th March – 23rd March; Each Selection Panel member to submit squad nomination to JTP Coach (BWPI Semi Finals)

6 Phase 2: 25th March – 7th April, State Squads are selected and announced
Week Description 5 25th March – 31st March – Review of submitted squads Selection panel 31st March finalise the State Squads and submit to JTP Coach 6 During the week beginning 1st April State squads are announced

7 Phase 3: 8th April – 19th May, State Squad training period
Week Description 7 8th – 14th April - School Holidays (No Squad Training) 8 15th – 21th April - School Holidays (No Squad Training) 9 23rd April – 28th April - First week Term 2 (No Squad Training) 10 29th April – 5th May - Squad Training 11 7th May – 12th May - Squad Training 12 13th May – 19th May - Squad Training

8 Phase 4: 20th May – 2nd June, State Teams (A & B) are selected and announced
Week Description 13 20th May – 26th May - Squad Training Head Coach to select final State Team and consult with the Selection panel Final State Teams members to be submitted to WPQ CEO and JTP Coach by 26th May WPQ to manage the ratification process 14 27th May – 2nd June - State Teams are announced*. No training – rest week for coaches and athletes * State Squad members that are unsuccessful in the final State Team selection will be encouraged transition to the RTC program.

9 Phase 5: 3rd June – 7th July State Team Preparation
Week Description 15 3rd June – 9th June - State Team Program Preparation (Teams induction on Sunday 9th June) 16 10th June – 16th June - State Team Program Preparation 17 17th June – 23rd June - State Team Program Preparation 18 24th June – 30th June - State Team Program Preparation 19 Week beginning 1st July - Last week of Preparation (Week 1 School Holidays)

10 Phase 6: 6th – 22nd July, State Teams to compete at the Inter State Championships
Week Description 20 6th July – 12th July – Inter State Championships Sydney U16, U18 & U22 (Boys and Girls) Dates 6th July – 12th July (TBC) – Inter State Championships Hobart U14 (Boys and Girls) 21 15th July – 22nd July - Submission of Coaches’ player review documents to WPQ
