1 THUMOS '13: The First International Workshop on Action Recognition with a Large Number of Classes Closing notes Massimo Piccardi University of Technology, Sydney

2 State of the recognition challenge
Baseline, November 2012: 43.9% accuracy Winner, November 2013: 85.6% accuracy Impressive increase within a year from release! Should this dataset be extended to become even more realistic and challenging?

3 Possible extensions More classes Perhaps an ontology? MediaMill etc
<atom:category term='Movies_sci_fi_fantasy' label='Sci-Fi/Fantasy' xml:lang='en- US'><yt:deprecated/> </atom:category> MediaMill etc

4 Possible extensions Untrimmed videos for testing
Videos as uploaded by the users: main action + much else before and after (other actions, null action), or simply multiple actions in the same video Weakly-labeled training?

5 Possible extensions Multiple labels per video
Multi-label classification, including no labels

6 Possible extensions Spatio-temporal localization
Localize the action(s) in time and space Spatial annotation is currently available for 24 classes

7 Possible extensions Attribute recognition
Recognize both the action and its attributes (or class hierarchy, ontology etc)

8 Next edition We wish to run the next edition of THUMOS in conjunction with ECCV 2014 in Zurich Changes and extensions to the challenge Thank you for your participation - stay connected with this challenge!
