2. Power for the recorder
The Recorders come with batteries. If the batteries are not working, you can use the AC Power Adapter, otherwise, you are ready to use the Recorder.
Using the AC Power Adapter:
Insert the color coded Yellow insert of the AC Power Adapter to the color coded Yellow DC IN 3V jack which is located on the left hand side of the Recorder.
Plug the AC Power Adapter to the wall outlet.
When you have finished using the AC Power Adapter:
Unplug the AC Power Adapter from the wall outlet.
Unplug the color coded Yellow insert from the Recorder.
Store the AC Power Adapter in the case.

3. Turning on/off your recorder
To turn on the recorder, locate the POWER/HOLD switch on the right hand side of the recorder. Slide the POWER/HOLD switch to the direction of POWER for more than 1 second.
The unit will turn on and “ACCESSING” will be displayed on recorder screen.
To turn off the recorder, slide the POWER/HOLD switch to the direction of POWER for more than 2 seconds.
“SEE YOU” will be displayed on the recorder screen and the unit will turn off.

4. USING THE HOLD FEATURE
To prevent accidental operation while in RECORD mode, you can lock all buttons on the recorder by using the HOLD feature.
On the right hand side of the recorder you will find the POWER/HOLD switch. Slide the POWER/HOLD switch in the direction of the word HOLD. The word “HOLD” will appear on the screen.
If you are recording and you want to stop, you must first cancel the HOLD operation by sliding the POWER/HOLD switch towards the center of the POWER/HOLD and all the buttons will be unlocked.

5. REMOTE COMMANDER
Using the Remote Commander can help eliminate unwanted noise from handling the recording unit, pressing the buttons, or touching the case. Even when the unit buttons are inactive while in the HOLD mode, you can still manipulate the unit to RECORD, STOP, PLAY, and PAUSE with the Remote Commander. To use the Remote Commander: Attach the Remote Commander to the recorder by connecting the plug, that is attached to the Remote Commander, to the jack located at the right hand side of the unit. The jack is blue and marked with the word, “REMOTE”. Using the Remote Commander, you can press the button that corresponds to the action you want accomplished without touching the recorder. To discontinue using the Remote Commander: In the STOP mode, disconnect the Remote Commander plug from the Recorder.

6. Recording level
The Recorder comes with 2 modes of Recording Levels, MANUAL and AUTO. Please check this before you begin any recording.
Turn the recorder over to the back side.
In the middle left hand side of the recorder you will find the REC LEVEL switch.
MANUAL: Slide the switch to the word “MANUAL” if you want to control the recording level. In Manual mode, you would use the silver dial located on the right hand side of the recorder (from the front view) to manipulate the Recording Level.
AUTO: Slide the switch to the word “AUTO” if you want the recorder to automatically adjust the recording level for you.

7. Microphone sensitivity
The Recorder comes with 2 modes of Microphone Sensitivity, HI LEVEL and LOW LEVEL. Please check this before you begin any recording.
Turn the recorder over to the back side.
In the upper left hand side of the recorder you will find the MIC SENS(ATT) switch.
HI LEVEL: Slide the switch to the word “HI”. Use the HI mode when you are recording sounds that are at a distant.
LOW LEVEL: Slide the switch to the word “LOW”. Use the LOW mode when you are recording sounds that are near.

8. Folders & tracks
Every recorder is set up with 10 folders. Each of these folders can hold up to 99 tracks.
While in the STOP mode, press the FOLDER button.
Use the FF (Fast Forward) or FR (Fast Reverse) button to scroll up and down in order to find the folder you want to use (FOLDER 1-FOLDER 10).
Press PLAY/ENTER to select the FOLDER.
Press the FOLDER button to return to the main screen.

9. RECORDING
Before recording, position the Recorder in the best possible position in order to pick up all the sounds or voices you are wanting to record. For example, place the Recorder in the middle of a table where everyone who is being recorded is sitting.
Start Recording:
When you are ready to record, press the REC button. The RECORD indicator light will be a steady Red light and the PAUSE indicator light will blink an Orange color alerting you that the recorder in in STAND-BY mode.
Press the PAUSE button to allow the recording to begin. When recording mode has begun, the Orange color blinking light on the PAUSE button will turn off and the Red indicator light on the REC button remains on.
End Recording: To stop recording, press the STOP button.

10. Using headphones
Headphones are not supplied but for optimal results in recording, they can be helpful. Headphones allow you to hear what is being recorded and you can determine if the subject needs to be closer to the microphone or if the Recorder is picking up any unwanted noises. To connect headphones to the Recorder, simply connect the wire of your headphones to the Green color coded jack that is located on the upper left hand side of the Recorder. It is marked with the words “LINE OUT” and has a picture of headphones.

11. MICROPHONES
There are 2 microphone options. There is an internal microphone and there is the ability to use an external microphone.
INTERNAL MICROPHONE:
On the top of the recorder you will find 2 silver internal speakers; one on the right hand corner and the other on the left hand corner. These are the default microphones used unless an external microphone is connected. No action is required.
EXTERNAL MICROPHONE:
In the STOP mode, connect the External Microphone plug to the recorder using the Red color coded jack located at the top of the Recorder. The jack has a picture of a microphone.
The phrase, “PLUG IN POWER” should be displayed on the screen indicating that the Recorder has acknowledged the external microphone and is feeding it power.
If you do not see the message, “PLUG IN POWER” on the screen, press MENU . Use the FF/FR button to locate “Detail Menu” and press PLAY/ENTER.
Again, use the FF/FR buttons to scroll up and down until you locate “PLUG IN POWER”. Press PLAY/ENTER.
One more time, use the FF/FR buttons to select “ON” then press PLAY/ENTER. Press the MENU button to return to the home screen.

12. USING THE TRIPOD
A Tripod has been provided to further assist you with eliminating the recording of any unwanted noise. Using the Tripod helps to reduce the noise that is associated with touching the recorder buttons and touching the recorder itself.
Attaching the Tripod:
Remove the Tripod from the protective casing.
Turn the recorder over. You will see the threaded hole to be used with the Tripod.
Connect the recorder to the Tripod via the threaded hole. Holding the Recorder steady, turn the Tripod clockwise until it is firmly attached. Do not tighten too much.
Separate the 3 silver legs and place it on a flat surface.
You can reposition the Recorder using the silver dial located at the top of the Tripod legs.
Turn the silver dial counter clockwise to loosen the swiveling head. Once it is loosened, you can position the Recorder where you want it to be and secure it by turning the silver dial clockwise to secure it.

13. Removing the Tripod
Make sure the Recorder is parallel to the flat surface as if it were lying on its back. If it is not in this position, loosen the swiveling head by turning the silver dial counter clockwise and positioning it in the correct position.
Pick up the Tripod and bring the legs together.
Turn the Tripod counter clockwise until it is no longer attached to the Recorder.
The swiveling head should be facing up with the threaded point aiming upward.
Return the Tripod to it’s protective cover.

14. Listening to the recording
You can listen to your recording with or without headphones. Using headphones will give you a sense of privacy.
Make sure the power is on.
Locate the folder that has the track you would like to listen to.
Use the FF button to go to the track you are going to listen to if you do not want the first track.
Once you have located the desired track, press PLAY/ENTER to listen to the recording.
Use the FF button to Fast Forward, the FR button to Fast Reverse, the STOP button to stop listening, and the PLAY/ENTER button to resume listening.

15. Save recordings to computer
Plug in the supplied USB cord to your Recorder via the USB jack that is located on the left hand side of your Recorder. Connect your USB cord to your computer’s USB port. “CONNECTING” should be displayed on the Recorder screen. Click on your computer screen where it says, Open folder to view”. Double click on MSSONY. Double click on HIFI. Under HIFI you will find the available Folders. If you only want to copy a track, double click on the Folder that contains that track and the tracks will be displayed. Copy Tracks or Folders to your computer by dragging the Track(s) or Folder(s) you want copied from your Recorder to your computer. Click, Hold, Drag, and Drop. When you have finished, close the screen where the Recorder Folder/Tracks are displayed. On the bottom right hand side of your computer screen, left click on the icon that has a picture of a memory stick. Move your cursor to the name of your device and left click. You will get a message that says, “SAFE TO REMOVE HARDWARE”. At this point you can disconnect the USB cord from you computer. Disconnect the USB cord from the Recorder. Your main menu screen will appear. Place USB cord back in the case.

16. recording on a memory card
Memory cards and/or sticks are not provided but may be used. They will be formatted to the specifications of the Recorder so it is best if you are using a blank Memory Card/Stick or you save any data you may have on your computer before formatting begins.
While in the STOP mode, open the door of the memory card slot that is located on the left hand side of the Recorder.
Slide your memory card in the slot making sure it is securely affixed. Close the door of the memory card slot.
Press the Menu button and use the FF/FR buttons to scroll through until you locate “MEMORY” then press PLAY/ENTER.
Use the FF/FR buttons to select “MEMORY CARD” then press PLAY/ENTER. Press STOP to exit the menu mode.
Proceed to Record.

17. Deleting a recording
Once you delete a recording, you cannot retrieve it so make sure that you make a copy of the recording on your computer or memory card.
Turn on the Recorder
Select the Folder that contains the Track you want to delete.
Select the Track you want to delete by using the FF/FR button.
Press the DELETE button. “Delete?” will appear on the Recorder screen and you will hear the recording.
Use the FF/FR buttons to select “EXECUTE”.
Press PLAY/ENTER.
If you decide you don’t want to delete, select “CANCEL” in step 5 then press PLAY/ENTER.

18. Storing the recorder
When you have finished using the Recorder, please insure all pieces of the unit have been returned to the case. Turn off the power to the Recorder. The Recorder will go into Sleep mode if it has not been used within a few minutes. Press the STOP button to awaken the Recorder from Sleep mode. Turn the Recorder off by sliding the POWER/HOLD switch in the direction of the word POWER. You will see, “SEE YOU!” displayed on the screen before it turns off. Store the Recorder, Tripod, AC Power Adapter, USB cord, Remote Recorder, and headphones (if included) into the protective case.
