1 Mein Kampf My Struggle

2 Journal/Warm up If you were to write your own manifesto (published verbal declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of the issuer, be it an individual, group, political party or government) what would it be titled? What type of propaganda do you think is the most effective in our society today?

3 How do ideology and propaganda work together to oppress people?
Purpose/Objective Essential Question: How do ideology and propaganda work together to oppress people? Understand the connections between thesis, evidence and analysis Be able to pick the best evidence to support thesis Understand the connection between Mein Kampf and the rise of Hitler Uses critical reasoning skills to analyze and evaluate positions Create and use research questions that are tied to an essential question to focus inquiry on an idea, issue, or event. Analyze how an understanding of world history can help us prevent problems today Analyze how individuals and movements have shaped world history

4 Step #1 As a group create a discussion/research question based on the excerpts from Mein Kampf This question should be open-ended that can be answered by using textual evidence from Mein Kampf Use the ‘Blooms Taxonomy Question Stems’ Handouts Challenge yourself to use the high-level thinking questions Analysis, Synthesis, Evaluation

5 Creating Discussion Questions
Avoid questions that only require a few words to answer. EX: What three groups did Hitler categorize cultures into? Aim for questions that require multiple sentences and evidence to answer. EX: To what extent does Hitler justify the necessity of having a dominant culture in society? EX: Assess the validity of Hitler’s assumption that inferior races would perish without the Aryan race.

6 Step #2 As a group, write a thesis statement that can answer the discussion question. Remember to include the three parts to your thesis: How What So what

7 Step #3 As a group find two pieces of textual evidence that would support the thesis statement Remember, you want to find the most compelling and strongest evidence from the reading Use the rubric to help guide you

8 Step #4 As a group write TWO pieces of analysis for each textual evidence There should be 4 total Use the rubric to help guide your analytical writing

9 Step #5 Make sure your paper is the discussion question you created.
As a group you will annotate the Mein Kampf outline Does the thesis answer the discussion/research question? Are there parts to the thesis statement you would change? Does the evidence match AND support the thesis statement? Would you have picked the same evidence? Does the analysis include one sentence explaining the evidence and the second sentence connecting the evidence to the thesis?

10 Reflection/Exit Slip On a separate piece of paper, individually, please answer the following questions How do ideology and propaganda work together to oppress people? What was challenging about this assignment? What went well? How will this assignment help you with the Sophomore Project? Two new things you learned today What questions do you still have about outlines? Mein Kampf?
