2
Gathering Around the WORD Call to Worship (Psalm 107:1-3, 21-22)
O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, those he redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wonderful works to humankind. And let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices, and tell of his deeds with songs of joy.

4
Gathering Around the WORD Gathering Hymn # 644 “Give Thanks, O Christian People”

5
Gathering Around the WORD Gathering Hymn # 644 “Give Thanks, O Christian People”
Give thanks, O Christian people, for all who love the Lord, who live each day believing in God's eternal Word: to share Christ's love in living, to witness with each deed, to use the talents given to plant the gospel seed.
6
Gathering Around the WORD Gathering Hymn # 644 “Give Thanks, O Christian People”
Give thanks, O Christian people, for life in fellowship with all who trust our Savior their serving to equip: to ease another's burdens, to cope in joy and stress, to magnify God's message and Christ's great love confess.
7
Gathering Around the WORD Call to Confession (John 3:19) A light has come into the world, but the people still love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil. In humility through our contrite spirit, let us confess our sins before the liberating light of Christ.
8
Gathering Around the WORD Prayer of Confession (in Unison)
Merciful God, we confess the folly of our sin and the hypocrisy of our complaints. We grumble about the evils in our world, even as we commit injustices and profit through deceit. We fret about the scarcity of resources while hoarding earth’s goods and cheating the poor.
9
Gathering Around the WORD Prayer of Confession (in Unison)
We protest the problems of our world, but we do not actively work to address them. Merciful God, expose our sins before the light of your grace. Heal our sin and free us from our foolish ways that we may know the joy of eternal life in Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray, Amen.
10
Gathering Around the WORD Declaration of Forgiveness
Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.
11
Gathering Around the WORD Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.
12
Gathering Around the WORD Passing of the Peace of Christ
(Matthew 5:9) Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Children of God, let us share the peace of Christ and the love of God through our actions and in truth. May the Peace of our Lord be with you, and also with you.
13
Proclaiming the WORD Message to the Youth/ Prayer of Illumination
14
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Ephesians 2:1-10)
1You were dead through the trespasses and sins 2in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. 3All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else.
15
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Ephesians 2:1-10)
4But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us 5even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved — 6and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
16
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Ephesians 2:1-10)
8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God — 9not the result of works, so that no one may boast. 10For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
17
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (John 3:14-21)
14“And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. 17“Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
18
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (John 3:14-21)
18Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. 20For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. 21But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God.”
19
Proclaiming the WORD (Ephesians 2:1-10 and John 3:14-21)
…So That No One May Boast
20
Responding Hymn # 209 “My Song is Love Unknown”
My song is love unknown, my Savior's love to me, love to the loveless shown that they might lovely be. O who am I that for my sake my Lord should take frail flesh, and die?
21
Responding Hymn # 209 “My Song is Love Unknown”
He came from heaven’s throne salvation to bestow; the world that was his own would not its Savior know. But O my Friend, my Friend indeed, who at my need his life did spend!
22
Responding Hymn # 209 “My Song is Love Unknown”
Sometimes we strew his way, and his sweet praises sing, resounding all the day hosannas to our King. Then "Crucify!" is all our breath, and for his death we thirst and cry.
23
Responding Hymn # 209 “My Song is Love Unknown”
Unheeding, we will have our dear Lord made away, a murderer to save, the prince of life to slay. Yet steadfast he to suffering goes, that he his foes from thence might free.
24
Responding Hymn # 209 “My Song is Love Unknown”
Here might I stay and sing, no story so divine: never was love, dear King, never was grief like thine. This is my Friend, in whose sweet praise I all my days could gladly spend.
