What is Lent? The period of 40 weekdays that in the Christian Church is devoted to fasting, abstinence, and penitence. Lent is the Church’s ‘spiritual wake up call’ to us to prepare for Easter and to remind us that we nee to die ourselves. Dying to yourself means dying to your own selfish wants, pleasures, and desires. In order to better focus on what God wants, and what you want in your own life. Lent officially starts on Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday The 40 days represents the 40 days the people Israel wandered into in the wilderness and the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness. On Ash Wednesday we shall receive ashes that remind us of our nature as created beings. As the cross is made on our forehead hear the words “ Turn away from sin faithful to the gospel.”
