Who is Epimetheus Epimetheus is the God of Afterthought and Excuses (Foolishness) Son of Iapetus (God of mortal life) and Clymene (Goddess of Infamy and Renown) Had 3 other Brothers Atlas (God of astronomy, leader of titans in Titanomachy), Menoetius (God of rashness and anger), and Prometheus (God of Forethought)

Titanomachy During the Titanomachy, Epimetheus and his brother Prometheus sided with Zeus against the Titans Helped the Gods defeat the Titans Were not thrown into Tartarus

Being Rewarded As a Result of being involved in the Titanomachy, Epimetheus and Prometheus were rewarded by Zeus They would be the ones to shape the creatures that live on Earth

Creation of Creatures Epimetheus began to create all of the creatures but… He used up all of the skills Zeus gave to him to give to the creatures without giving man any This meant that Man would go into the world unarmed and unequipped with skills (Zeus ok with this) Prometheus stole skills to give to mankind

Prometheus Prometheus gets into more trouble, and steals more from Zeus to give to man Zeus chains Prometheus to a mountain Warns Epimetheus to not accept any gifts from Zeus

Creation of Pandora Zeus, fed up with Prometheus’ crimes, decides to indirectly punish Epimetheus (and to an extent man) Orders Hephaestus to create a woman to give to Epimetheus Hephaestus creates Pandora, whom the other gods equip with various skills such as beauty and curiosity Epimetheus falls in love with her and marries her Have one Daughter (Pyrrhus)

Pandora’s Box Pandora becomes obsessed with a wedding gift from Zeus (Jar) Succumbs to temptation, opens the jar, releasing harmful Daimones (spirits), such as hardship, onto the Earth Hope (Elpis) remained
