1. Report on the absorption of contract staff
At the end of 2002, SAMDI employed 59 European Commission funded staff members, and these employees were not employed in terms of the Public Service Act
The Financing Agreement with the European Commission expired on 31/12/02
An additional R4, 9m was allocated to the Vote in 2002/03, to enable SAMDI to appoint these contract workers, additional to the approved establishment, in terms of the PSA, until 31/12/03

2. Absorption of contract staff
In October 2002, the MPSA approved the appointment of 49 employees additional to the approved establishment, on a one-year fixed-term contract of employment
SAMDI is currently engaged in its strategic planning process, addressing the issue of human resource requirements for the 2004/ 2005 financial year
SAMDI is formulating a strategy to meet its human resource requirements for the period 1 January – 31 March 2004
