Study of Research Output of Selected Engineering Institutions in Odisha Based on Scopus Database During Bijayananda Pradhan Central Library Central University of Orissa Koraput – 21st national convention on knowledge, library and information networking (4-6 Oct 2018), gitam university, vskp
2
Kernel of the Study The various bibliometric indicators like yearly publications, preferred subject areas of research, most productive authors, institutions and journals etc. are analysed based on the collected data. Among these, the present study covers only three institutions, namely Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar; National Institute of Technology, Rourkela & Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Burla. There are many government and private universities, autonomous institutions including technical institutions in Odisha. The present study is a bibliometric analysis of the research output of the selected engineering institutions in Odisha, based on the published literature as reflected in Scopus database during the period 2012 to 2016. 21st national convention on knowledge, library and information networking (4-6 Oct 2018), gitam university, vskp

Scopus Database Scopus is a commercially available bibliographic database which covers the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. Covers world's research output in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and arts & humanities. Scopus features smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research. The name, Scopus, was inspired by the bird, Hammerkop (Scopus umbretta), which reportedly has excellent navigation skills. 21st national convention on knowledge, library and information networking (4-6 Oct 2018), gitam university, vskp

Discipline Wise Coverage of Scopus
Scopus Database Subject Area Coverage Scopus offers the broadest, most integrated coverage of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources across the sciences, technology, medicine (STM), as well as social sciences and arts & humanities (A&H). Titles on Scopus are classified under four broad subject clusters (life sciences, physical sciences, health sciences and social sciences & humanities), which are further divided into 27 major subject areas and 300+ minor subject areas. Discipline Wise Coverage of Scopus Social Sciences (8,698) Health Sciences (7,133) Physical Sciences (7,441) Life Sciences (4,601) Psychology Economics Business A&H 100% MEDLINE Dentistry Nursing Chemistry Physics Engineering Neuroscience Pharmacology Biology More than 22,800 titles on Scopus & Titles can be in more than one subject area. 21st national convention on knowledge, library and information networking (4-6 Oct 2018), gitam university, vskp

Key Findings The highest numbers of contributions in terms of year among the three institutions under study are as follows: NIT Rourkela in the year 2016 with 874(28.24 %) number of documents, IIT BBSR in the year 2016 with 262(29.47%) number of documents, VSSUT Burla in the year 2015 with 110(33.84%) number of documents. NIT Rourkela is the most productive engineering institution among the three institutions of the study with 3094(72%) numbers of publications. The most preferred subject area of NIT Rourkela is the “Computer Science” with 909 documents. The most preferred subject area of IIT BBSR is “Physics and Astronomy” with 252 number of documents and the most preferred subject area of VSSUT Burla is “Computer Science” with 150 number of documents. NIT Rourkela has published maximum number of documents in the journal “IoP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering”. IIT Bhubaneswar has published maximum number of documents in the journal “RSC Advances” and VSSUT Burla has published maximum number of documents in the journal “Applied Physics”. The most productive author of NIT Rourkela in terms of publication is S.S. Mahapatra with 114 numbers of publications. The most productive author of IIT Bhubaneswar is G. Panda with 82 numbers of publications and the most productive author of VSSUT Burla is S.K. Swain with 44 numbers of contributions. Articles are found to be the most productive source of publication of research outputs with approximately 75% of total publications. The reason for the same is that research publications in articles get more weightage in Academic Performance Indicator (API) Score than other sources of publications. The multiple authorship has found to be more contributions (95%) than single author contribution (5%). 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 21st national convention on knowledge, library and information networking (4-6 Oct 2018), gitam university, vskp
