Week 2 English 8 and Yearbook

Monday, 8/21 – Regular (English 8)
Students will: 1) Enter room and sit where they want for a permanent seat. 2) Leaders will collect the following from students at their table and turn the following in to the Work to Grade box: syllabus signature page diagnostic essay (to Ms. Bales) AR contract 3) Play icebreaker "Blobs or Lines" (see PowerPoint) 4) Read independently for minutes, while teacher creates physical seating chart. Homework: Read independently for 30 minutes. Decide if you want to complete an AR quiz, or an independent project (proposals due by 9/15).

Monday, 8/21 – Regular (Yearbook)
Students will: 1) Sit where they want their permanent seat to be. 2) Table leaders collect & turn in Camera Checkout Sheets for points. 3) View “Theme” PowerPoint and discuss. 4) Continue work on Theme Project for Yearbook. 5) Finish organizing cameras and creating “equipment needed” list. Homework: Theme project, due Friday, 8/25. You will informally share this with the class.

Tuesday, 8/22 – Regular (English 8)
Students will: 1)Complete note taker for Multi-paragraph Essay Terminology 2)Read Newsela Article: “Coming Up Blank: “The Science of Writer’s Block.” 3)Icebreaker Homework: 1)Read independently for 30 minutes. Decide if you want to complete an AR quiz, or an independent project (proposals due by 9/15). 2)Study Multi-paragraph Essay Terminology for future quiz (Sept. 1st)

Tuesday, 8/22 – Regular (yearbook)
1) Turn in Camera Checkout Sheets for points. 2) Discuss Class Rules – Safe, responsible, respectful 3) View “Theme” PowerPoint and discuss. 4) Continue work on Theme Project for Yearbook 5) Complete organization of cameras Homework: Theme project, due Friday, 8/25.

Yearbook Terminology Lesson Half of class time will be gifted to you to finalize Group Theme Projects. Make final preparations. What discussion questions will you pose to your audience in order to help new ideas regarding your proposal percolate to the surface? Homework: Study Yearbook Terminology. 2) Finish Group Theme Project.

Weekly quiz: classroom procedures/rules, passes, theme, syllabus. Group Theme Presentations. This is informal, and each presentation should contain a question/answer/constructive criticism/brainstorm portion at the end.
