7.6 Finding an Equation of a Line
Objective: To write an equation of a line using the slope intercept equation given an order pair and slope
3
To write an equation given slope “m” and one point (x,y)
Our objective is to find “b” using the equation y=mx+b. We will first plug in our given values (m, x, y) then solve for b Once we have b, write the equation in slope-intercept form using the given “m” and the “b” value calculated
4
write an equation of the line given the slope is 3 and the point (-3,-2).
y = mx + b y = 3x + ? -2 = 3( )+b -3 -2 = -9 + b (-3,-2) 7 = b y = 3x + 7
5
To write an equation given slope “5” and one point (4,2)
y = 5x - 18
6
To write an equation given slope “3” and one point (2,7)
y = 3x + 1
7
write an equation given m = -3 and point (2,7)
(-5,-2) y = -3x + 13
