1 Cu67 Isotope Radiator & Target
Kevin Jordan

2 Beamline Location 4D00 Dump Existing diagnostics
Harp Beam viewer Stand for radiator & target Beryllium window location New diagnostics location Holes laid our for new stand

3 Radiator & Target Assembly

4 Tungsten Radiator Water cooling lines; ¼” OD, 0.19” ID, 1,400 PSI@72˚F
Front face Rear face LCW Cooling lines Copper support 1mm Tungsten 7/23/2019

5 Target Crucible Material: hBN Custom pliers to handle hBN crucible
Hexagonal Boron Nitride Custom pliers to handle hBN crucible Gallium does not ‘wet’ to hBN No metal contaminates

6 Radiator/Target Assembly (1/3)
Air cylinders to position target, provide solid contact to LCW cooled copper plates

7 Radiator/Target Assembly (2/3)
Quick connects on LCW for ALARA Enable rapid disconnection for ’cooldown’

8 Beryllium Window Expected temperature rise
Electron beam welded .015 inches thick PF-60/ 99.0% min., Beryllium window to a 04.5 inch aluminum single-sided conflat flange over a 02.5 inch aperture. Pressure tested to 1.5 atmospheres From Hall C, PR #195038 Expected temperature rise 0.8 GPM 60 PSI drop 1 kwatt load; 4.7˚C rise Vacuum system tied into Fast valve

9 Instrumentation 1/2 An addition set of electron beam diagnostics will be added and cross calibrated to 4D00 dump line diagnostics BPM Harp Beam Viewer Two additional video cameras will be monitor irradiation of Gallium One for position of beam on radiator – or BPM? Second is to give overview in case something goes wrong

10 Instrumentation 2/2 Radiation sensitive detector & camera to monitor beam position on radiator 3 Thermocouples to monitor critical temperatures All monitored in EPICS w/alarm #1 Tungsten Radiator #2 Boron Nitride target holder #3 LCW outlet LCW return water flow switch

11 Risks & Hazards Sealed raised edge on copper plate to prevent spillage in the event of hBN crucible failure Cover fitted to top of hBN crucible Long fitted pliers to remove hBN crucible Extended handle for ALARA Quick connections on water cooling lines for ALARA Temperature monitoring to prevent overheating
