Many sessions on the DEC Recommended Practices We will focus on how the use of the DEC practices can enhance child and family outcomes We will look at how the use of the DEC Family practices can lead to increased family engagement

Percent of children who demonstrate improved… Early intervention services have helped their family… Positive social-emotional skills (including social relationships); Acquisition and use of knowledge and skills (including early language/communication [and early literacy]); and Use of appropriate behaviors to meet their needs. What do you want to accomplish: Communicate with the family about the purpose of Early Intervention Establish a relationship Identify concerns Confirm interest in proceeding with screening or evaluation/assessment

What do you need to accomplish: Provide and explain rights; Obtain written parent consent for evaluation/ assessment of child and request / release of information forms Provide prior notice for evaluation Gather information about child and family, incorporating 3 global outcomes Use outcomes framework to think about child’s functioning, discussing everyday routines and activities of child and family

What do you need to accomplish: Schedule evaluation and assessment with team and family at place and time convenient for family Provide parental prior written notice/rights Determine eligibility Establish COS entry ratings Schedule IFSP team meeting

Review present levels of development Establish child and family outcomes Identify strategies and services Review family rights Obtain parental consent Implement services

Ensure that service providers implement IFSP services in a timely manner Provide services in the context of daily routines and activities Monitor child progress and revise IFSP as needed Modify services and supports as needed Continue to develop trusting relationship with family

Prepare family for transition out of Part C services Provide prior written notice/parental rights and coordinate timely transition conference Coordinate developing transition plan with steps and services Notify LEA COS exit rating and Family survey
