Anglo-Saxons: The native peoples living on the British Isles. Vikings: Danish and Norwegian explorers who used the British Isles as a port during their Atlantic Exploration. Normans: The natives peoples of the continent of Europe that eventually conquer the British Isles. Feudalism: A political system in which nobles are granted the use of lands that legally belong to their King, in exchange for their loyalty, military service, and protection of the people who live on the land.

5) Nobles: An aristocratic (upper class) male with land, power, and authority. Were generally referred to as LORD. 6) Vassals: A person who received a grant of land from a Lord in exchange for a pledge of loyalty and services. 7) Knights: An armored warrior in medieval Europe who fought on horseback. 8) Peasants: Poor laborers who worked a plot of land for a nobleman in exchange for protection.

9) The Manor System: The economic system centered around feudalism, run by nobles and worked by peasants. 10) Chivalry: A code of behavior for knights in Medieval Europe where courage, loyalty, and devotion were stressed.

11) Church Hierarchy: The strict authority and role within the Roman Catholic Church in the Middle Ages. Popes had ultimate authority over Kings, Cardinals, Bishops, and Priests. 12) The Crusades: The expeditions in which medieval Christian warriors sought to recover control of the Holy Land of Jerusalem from Muslim control.

13) Charlemagne: King of the Franks who unified continental Europe under his rule. 14) Franks: Native descendants of present day France.

15) Bubonic Plague: A deadly disease that spread across Asia and Europe in the mid-14th century, killing millions of people. 16) Squalor: A state of being extremely dirty and unpleasant, especially as a result of poverty or neglect.
