3 I. The Tet Offensive Vietcong launched a massive attack on US airbases, towns and cities in S. Vietnam Although the Vietcong lost more soldiers compared to US, the Tet offensive changed public opinion about the war.

4 II. King’s Assassination
MLK was shot by a sniper while visiting Memphis to support a strike Riots broke out in over 100 cities

5 III. Troubles with the Democrats
Johnson choose not to run for president again Many believed Bobby Kennedy would win the nomination, but he was assassinated. The Democrats nominated VP. Humphrey Anti-war protestors showed displeasure with Humphrey at the nominating convention They were gassed and beaten by police.
