Body temperature (Tb) in Swiss mice exposed to a decrease in ambient temperatures. CTRL: control mice housed at 23°C (N=9); COLD: mice exposed to a consecutive decrease in ambient temperatures (15, 8, 0, –8 and –15°C, 2 weeks of each, N=9 at 15 to –8°C and N=8 at –15°C). Data are means ± s.e.m. Significant difference between the two groups is indicated by asterisks (*P<0.05, **P<0.01).
