Diagram of classic theory and “antitheory” of restenosis. In the classic theory, predominant wave front originates from medial smooth muscle cell, which changes phenotype and undergoes migration and proliferation. The antitheory emphasizes the role of thrombus as a “bioabsorbable matrix” for cell colonization and intimal proliferation. Final result of both processes is similar.
