Isolation Of DNA We are going to carry out an experiment to isolate DNA from plant cells so that we can observe it’s appearance.

METHOD Collect a knife, stopclock, 250cm3 beaker, stirring rod and half a kiwi fruit. Place the following in the beaker: 10cm3 detergent, 100cm3 water, 3 spatulas of salt Finely chop the kiwi (no need to remove skin) and place in the beaker. Place the beaker in a water bath at 60oC for 15 mins. Cool the mixture in an ice bath for 3 mins. Liquidise the mixture in a blender. Filter the mixture into a test tube to obtain 10cm3 Add 2-3 drops of a specific enzyme. Dribble 10cm3 of ice-cold ethanol down the side of the test tube. Try to remove some DNA with a stirring rod.
