Imaging inside wet granular flow Arshad A Kudrolli, Department of Physics, Clark University, Worcester, MA 01610 Particles : glass beads (d = 1mm) Liquid (HC oil) : RI 1.52, 22 cS Fluorescent dye : Pyromethene 597 Using a technique where we match the refractive index of the granular particles with that of the wetting fluid, we are able to visualize the interior of a granular flow away from side walls. Then by measuring the position of the particles we can infer the structural arrangements of the particles. We aim to study the flow properties as a function of strength of cohesion using this technique.
