III. The captives took a stand when it came to that which defiled

Receiving food from the king’s table was a generous benefit.
Daniel 1: 5 The king appointed for them a daily ration from the king's choice food and from the wine which he drank, and appointed that they should be educated three years, at the end of which they were to enter the king's personal service.

Not eating the king’s food was a mater of conscious for Daniel.
But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king's Food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself. ( ESV )

Daniel 1: 10 and the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, "I fear my lord the king, who assigned your food and your drink; for why should he see that you were in worse condition than the youths who are of your own age? So you would endanger my head with the king." ( ESV ) Daniel 1: 9 And God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs, ( ESV )

God is also at work in YOUR daily life as well.
I Corinthians 10: 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

Biblical principle, the God-follower must live or die by it.

IV. What was the consequence of Daniel’s action ?

Daniel’s actions were a positive seed.
- It influenced others to do good. - It gave Daniel a positive self-image. - It maintained good relationships. - It demonstrated commitment to God.

Every person is a servant so we must each one choose which Master we will serve.
Luke 16: 13 No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth."

We are sojourners on the earth.
The world pressures us to conform. We don’t anticipate any less pressure. Will we stand firm like Daniel did ?

we urge you to choose faithfulness to God over the temporary pleasures
As did Moses (Heb 11:24-5) we urge you to choose faithfulness to God over the temporary pleasures this world offers us.
