2 Problem definition and Motivation
Purpose of usage The dynamic ranging should only be provided for AMS’s performing coordinated HO In case of missing A-MAP, to allow AMS to be able to perform dedicated ranging, the ranging opportunity information shall be provided during the HO preparation via AAI_HO-CMD Not only ranging opportunity, but also ranging channel information need to be informed

3 Dynamic Ranging Usage Allocating dynamic ranging opportunity/channel
Provide following information Opportunity index of allocated ranging opportunity Dedicated ranging code Resource allocation of the ranging channel All such information is conveyed in AAI_HO-CMD message Type of Dynamic Ranging Common usage: The allocated ranging information in AAI_HO-CMD may be used commonly (non-dedicated). Same information as broadcasted in SFH’s SPx (i.e. periodic ranging region) Dedicated usage: It may be assigned to per user or a per group of users. (i.e. a-periodic ranging region. Not broadcasted to users through SFH) Hence, this is only for coordinated HO Benefits are less overhead for conveying ranging information in A-MAP Also, ranging performed in actual dedicated style

4 Dynamic Ranging Procedure
The T-BS informs S-BS about its current dynamic ranging status S-BS informs AMSs performing coordinated HO about T-BS’s dynamic ranging configuration through AAI_HO-CMD which contains parameters as follows: Opportunity index of allocated ranging opportunity Dedicated ranging code Resource allocation of the ranging channel

5 Proposed Text Remedy #1 On the 80216m_D3, page 165, line 61, add current text in with the proposed text as follows: Text Start Network Reentry CDMA-based HO Ranging Procedure If the serving ABS indicates in AAI_HO-CMD that CDMA-based HO ranging is not omitted by setting CDMA_RNG_FLAG=1 and a dedicated ranging code/opportunity is assigned to the AMS by target ABS, the AMS shall transmits the dedicated ranging code to the target ABS during network reentry. A serving ABS may schedule a ranging channel for handover purpose only if Ranging channel allocation periodicity in S-SFH SP1 is not set to 0 (i.e., every frame). If a ranging channel is scheduled by the target ABS for handover purpose only, the serving ABS shall also inform the AMS about the resource allocation of the ranging channel, and the ranging opportunity index where the ranging opportunity is located via the AAI_HO-CMD message. In such case, the AMS should use that ranging channel in order to avoid excessive multiple access interference. Upon reception of the dedicated ranging code and if ranging is successful, the target ABS shall allocate uplink resources for AMS to send AAI_RNG-REQ message and/or UL data. If the target ABS does not receive the dedicated ranging code within Ranging_Initiation_Deadline Timer, the target ABS shall discard the pre-assigned STID of the AMS Text End

6 Proposed Text Remedy #2 On the 80216m_D3, page 61, line 1, add current text in with the proposed text as follows: Text Start AAI_HO-CMD The S-ABS shall send AAI_HO-CMD to initiate the HO procedure, or to acknowledge the AAI_HO-REQ sent by the AMS. The AAI_HO-CMD message shall include the following parameters: Table 683—Parameters for AAI_HO-CMD message Text End Name Value Usage Dedicated Ranging Code Flag 1 If set to 0, it indicates that no dedicated ranging code is provided. If set to 1, it indicates that no dedicated ranging code is provided. My be included when CDMA_RNG_FLAG=1 Dedicated Ranging Region Flag If set to 0, it indicates that no dedicated ranging region is provided. If set to 1, it indicates that no dedicated ranging region is provided. My be included when CDMA_RNG_FLAG=1 Dedicated CDMA ranging code/opportunity 5 May be included when CDMA_RNG_FLAG=1 Ranging opportunity index 3 Indicates the index of the allocated ranging opportunity Subframe Index Indicates the subframe index of the allocated ranging opportunity Sub-band Index Indicates the Sub-band index of the allocated ranging opportunity

7 Proposed Text Remedy #3 On the 80216m_D3, page 163, line 12, add current text in with the proposed text as follows: Text Start HO Preparation During HO preparation phase, the serving ABS communicates with target ABS(s) selected for HO. The target ABS may obtain AMS information from the serving ABS via backbone network for HO optimization. During HO preparation phase, the target ABS may allocate a dedicated ranging code or opportunity to the AMS via the serving ABS through the AAI_HO-CMD message, indicated by both Dedicated_Ranging_Code_Flag and Dedicated_Ranging_Opportunity_Flag. The dedicated code and opportunity is assigned to the AMS until the Ranging Initiation Deadline. The AMS may reuse the pre-assigned dedicate ranging code and opportunity, and additional dedicated ranging opportunities assigned through the AAI_RNG-ACK, during network re-entry. If AMS fails to perform ranging before expiration of Ranging Initiation Deadline it shall stop using the dedicated code and opportunity but randomly pick a ranging code if further ranging is necessary. The target ABS shall select the dedicated ranging code from the group of codes which are allocated for dedicated handover ranging purpose. After the target ABS sends the selected dedicated ranging code/opportunity to the serving ABS over the backhaul, the serving ABS shall deliver the dedicated ranging code/opportunity to the AMS in AAI_HO-CMD Text End
