O Portable Powertools O If finished: Discuss your teams presentation to class

Safety Posters & Presentations to Class O Your group is responsible for creating a safety poster for your assigned machine. O Your group is responsible for presenting the safety notes for your machine. O You will present your machine safety notes as a group on Tuesday.

Agenda 3/25 (5 th Period) Learning Target: Brainstorm and research wind turbine ideas. Agenda: Intro to wind turbines Brainstorm and research wind turbine design Finish All Safety tests

Intro to Wind Turbines Videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhI8Y_sKcWI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a09vHnVrBi0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lWTQdHEazg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YJuFvjtM0s

Brainstorm and Research Wind Turbines What are some things to consider? Materials, angle of rotor attack, number of rotor blades, shape of rotor blades, wind speed What else? Wind with Miller Mrs. Daviss STEM assignments page http://miller.dwed.org.cn/course/view.php?id=2&lang=en_u tf8http://miller.dwed.org.cn/course/view.php?id=2&lang=en_u tf8 Your name should be in this format: Period # Last Name First Name 4 Davis Sheila

Safety Make sure you have completed General safety 1 General safety 2 Hand tool safety Tests are online on Mrs. Daviss website Print the completed test Sign, date, and period Turn into basket Dont forget to get your Safety Pledge signed! Your machine safety Other machine safety

Agenda 3/26 O Learning Target: Continue learning about general safety. O Agenda: O Groups Present Machine Notes to Class O Continue/Finish Safety Posters? O Safety for machine/General Safety O Continue/Finish Safety Testing O Portable Powertools O Your Machine O Other Machines O If finished: Explore Google Building Maker

Agenda 3/26 (5 th Period) Target: Brainstorm and research wind turbine ideas. Agenda: Discuss Wind Turbine Project Design Process Steps 1-4 Get group signed off! Finish safety tests online

The Problem Design and build two different model wind turbines to find which can generate the most energy. You will prove the energy generated by lifting weights and measuring the energy output. Constraints: Plastic or Balsa Wood? Turbine blades can be no longer than the radius of the box fans. Why? Complete and ready to submit to Kidwind Project website on April 15 th (Monday)

Problem, Brainstorm, and Research Problem: Design and create model a wind turbine that can generate the most energy. What are some things to consider? Materials Angle of blade Number of blades Shape of blades Wind speed of box fans Gear ratio High or low torque generator Document problem, brainstorming, and research in engineering notebook

Develop Ideas (How to Document) What are some of your ideas for the wind turbine? You need at least one documented in your engineering notebook that addresses things to be considered from brainstorming and research. What is the best idea from your group? Draw a picture of the design you will try Describe the design (how many blades, shape, why you have chosen this design)

Build Your Model Wind Turbine See all gear ratio and motor combinations for the nacelle All design process steps 1-4 in notebook Mrs. Davis will check and sign off all team members Select and outline rotor blades

Safety All tests are online on Mrs. Daviss website General Safety 1, General Safety 2, Portable Power Tools All other tools and machines (print first page) Sign, period, date, and turn into basket all 100% tests Dont forget to get SAFETY PLEDGE signed!

Agenda 3/27 O Learning Target: Continue learning about general safety. O Agenda: O Finish Safety Testing O Your Machine O Portable Powertools O Other Machines O Finish Safety Posters O Safety for machine/General Safety O If finished: Explore Google Building Maker

Agenda 3/27 (5 th Period) Target: Brainstorm and research wind turbine ideas. Agenda: Review Wind Turbine Project Design Process Define the Problem Brainstorm Research Finish safety tests online
