Opening: Entry Task: “Harriet Tubman” (10 minutes)
Distribute one copy of the Entry Task: “Harriet Tubman” Take out your Poetry Analysis Practice #2 from homework and use it to complete the Entry Task: “Harriet Tubman.” Think of any last questions you have before the End of Unit 1 Assessment Briefly discuss the Entry Task: “Harriet Tubman” and Poetry Analysis Practice #2 See Entry Task: “Harriet Tubman” (answers, for teacher reference) for suggested answers Review any concepts identified as difficult through your entry tasks and exit tickets from Lessons 12–14

Follow along and read the poem silently in your heads while you read it aloud Clarify any vocabulary Complete the End of Unit 1 Assessment silently and individually If you finish early, you should read your independent reading book
