Where did we get this idea?
9
Matthew 22:33-40 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:“ Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
10
Matthew 22:33-40 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.‘ This is the first and greatest commandment.

15
There is a throne, a control center -- the intersection of one's intellect, emotions, and will -- in every life. Either self or Christ is on that throne. From The Christ Controlled Life by Bill Bright
18
A life centered on Christ
Involves removing ourselves from the throne (dying to self/denying self) Creates unbelievable challenges and unfathomable blessings Creates the fullest life possible (John 10:10) Focuses upward (on glorifying God) and then outward (to people)
19
Loving and serving others are the (super)natural byproducts of a Christ-centered life.
20
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.‘ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. ‘All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Who or what is the Holy Spirit?
25
The Holy Spirit is the mysterious power or presence of God in nature or with individuals and communities, inspiring or empowering them with qualities [and abilities] they would not otherwise possess. Paul Achtemeier Harper Collins Bible Dictionary
26
Examples of the Holy Spirit’s Presence
You have a peace in the midst of a very difficult situation You forgive someone that you have never forgiven before You have a feeling to call or text someone and you do and then were in a lot of need A situation which should cause fear (loss of a job, health problem, etc.) simply does no do so
28
Self Centered vs. Christ Centered
Limited The need for us to feel good about ourselves Legalism – How much is enough Success Happiness (comes/goes) Temporary Unlimited Our desire to love and serve God Freedom is in Jesus Christ Obedience Everlasting joy Eternal
