1 CALEXICO HIGH SCHOOL CLOSED MAIN CAMPUS

2 Calexico USD | BP 5112.5 Students Open/Closed Campus
In order to keep our students in a supervised, safe, and orderly environment, the Board of Education establishes a "closed campus" at all district schools. Once students arrive at school, they must remain on campus until the end of the school day unless they have written authorization from their parents/guardians and receive permission from school authorities to leave for a specific purpose. Students who leave campus without such authorization shall be classified as truant and subject to disciplinary action. (cf Absences and Excuses) The Board finds that school facilities and resources are adequate to serve the lunchtime needs of all of our students. The Board further perceives that a closed campus benefits students by encouraging them to participate in school activities, rather than following other pursuits which may not be in their best interests. The requirement to keep students on campus is part of the Board's efforts to maintain a safe school climate and to reduce afternoon absenteeism. Administration shall look for means to provide students opportunities for: * Education * Organizational activities * Recreation * Social interaction * Quiet reading/study Parent Notices/Student Handbooks shall fully explain all rules and disciplinary procedures involved in the maintenance of the closed campus. The privilege of leaving campus may be revoked from individual students for disciplinary reasons or because of failure to maintain good academic standing. Provisions shall be made for parents who wish to authorize their children to leave the campus during the lunch period for home or appropriately supervised setting. This privilege may be revoked for violation of conditions.

“……must remain on campus until the end of the school day unless they have written authorization from their parents/guardians and receive permission from school authorities to leave for a specific purpose.” CHS will put into place Student Off-Campus Permission Form that parents can sign every time they request that their child leave campus. Parent/Guardian will be required to come in to the Attendance Office and fill out the form for each instance in which the student will be off campus during the lunch period. In addition, request administrator approval. The form will be valid for the day of release only.
